1. Tooth decay: also referred to as dental caries or cavities. It occurs when the bacteria in plaque is given the chance to settle on teeth.
2. Gum disease: a bacterial infection brought about by accumulations of plaque in the mouth.
3. Root infection: when the root (the bottom part) of a tooth becomes infected and fills up with bacteria.
4. Enamel degradation: characterised by very round and noticeably discoloured enamel surfaces. It occurs as a result of exposure to corrosive materials like fizzy drinks and sugary snacks.
5. Dry mouth: this condition is sometimes called xerostomia, but it is most easily recognised with the simple term ‘dry mouth. ’ Unsurprisingly, it is caused by a lack of saliva in the mouth.
6. Mouth sores: small, shallow lesions that develop on the soft tissues in your mouth or at the base of your gums.
